Battery Maker SK Plans $940M Expansion 

ATLANTA, Ga. (AP) — A battery company plans a $940 million expansion of a manufacturing plant in Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp’s office said Thursday.Kemp’s office says in a news release that the expansion by the company “SK innovation” in Jackson County will create 600 jobs.

NASHUA, N.H. – The U.S. Navy surface warship fleet in 2019 achieved important strides in shipbuilding and fielding new weapons. In late June, the Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) Electric Ships program office released a Naval Power and Energy Systems Technology Development Roadmap, or NPES-TDR — a path to new enabling technologies for exotic new shipboard weapons and sensors.

Segway Ending Production of its Namesake Vehicle 

Segway, which boldly claimed its two-wheeled personal transporter would revolutionize the way people get around, is ending production of its namesake vehicle.The Segway PT, popular with tourists and police officers but perhaps better known for its high-profile crashes, will be retired on July 15, the company said in a statement.

NASA Announces Contract With Northrop Grumman for Gateway 

NASA is continuing with its plans to build the Gateway space station that will orbit around the moon, as part of its efforts to create a sustainable, long-term lunar presence. The agency has announced it is awarding a $187 million contract to aerospace company Northrop Grumman to design the habitation and logistics outpost (HALO) for the station, with a first design review expected by the end of the year.

ECIA: CY19 Global Passive Sales Decline 13.7% From 2018

ECIA reports CY19 global passive sales (capacitors, inductors, and resistors) declined 13.7% in dollars and down 27.7% in units. Average selling price improved 19.3%. Units sales were 5.4 trillion units totaling $27.7 billion.
